I’ve just been…not blogging. I know. There has been a Caroline-shaped hole in your hearts since my last update. You’ve been obsessively refreshing this page, waiting, waiting for an update.
So here are a whole bunch of updates:
-Ethan is amazing. I know every parent says this, but he really is a special little boy. He is so patient for a kid his age and he just astounds me with the things he does these days. He’s very detail-oriented. The other day, we went outside to play with rocks and sticks (because toys are so overrated). He spent a solid thirty minutes stacking them in order of size, then arranging pine needles in a circle around them. I’m 99% sure he wasn’t building some kind of altar, but rather a work of art. 99%. If weird things start happening around the house, I’ll let you know and you can give me the name of a good exorcist.
-No talking yet, but I think he tried to say “bottle” yesterday. He still gets a bedtime bottle, and while he was drinking it, he took it out of his mouth and said “baba”, then went back to business. We’ll see!
-What he is lacking in verbal communication he more than makes up for with physical. He is a running, jumping, climbing maniac! He’s tall, so he has no trouble climbing up onto tall surfaces to explore. I’m not exactly encouraging him to scale the walls, but I am so glad he’s such an active boy. I try to indulge him as much as possible by taking him places where he can just run free.
-I’m feeling so well lately. I’ve been exercising regularly for about a month without getting off track and I can see a lot of changes in my body already. I’ve started running, which has made a huge difference in my stamina while playing with Ethan. I’m also noticing a little tone, which is a new thing for me. I’m less concerned with getting to a specific weight, but I would really like to fit into those jeans I shouldn’t have bought.
-Living at my mom’s has been pretty great for the most part. It’s still a little strange sometimes, and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s not a sign of failure on my part. It’s just what we’re doing right now so we can save for the future and get on a better track. Ethan absolutely loves having his Gigi around so much (and, of course, she’s in heaven), and he gets to see my dad a lot since it’s just a short walk to his house. Plus, since my mom is home in the evenings after Ethan goes to bed, sometimes we can go out for a quick date night without having to inconvenience anyone.
-I’ve been doing a ton of writing lately. I have also joined forces with my friend Matt to get some of these plays produced. As of this writing, three of my plays are slated for production in 2014. Only freaking out slightly, if “slightly” means “a lot”.
-I have also joined forces with my friend Claire to create a really cool, generally insane theatre person project to benefit the organization Random Acts. Stay tuned for details.
-All in all, life is pretty sweet right now. We’re not where we want to be as far as careers and financials and such are concerned, but we’re all healthy, happy, together, and safe. There’s not much more you can ask for these days without drifting into “Genie, grant my wish” territory. We’re good.
